I bring you treats!

It’s here! It’s here! *jumps up and down with excitement* I wait an entire year for this day and I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am that today is Halloween. I’ve had a whirlwind year that has seen me branching off into the world of self publishing, buying a house, and the usual hustle and bustle of a busy professional career. Every word I put to page is a gift, and this year I was not gifted with the skill to write a collection of new horror themed shorts for Halloween, BUT you know what, I’m cool with it. Guess why…go on…because I’m clever enough to still find a way to give you lovely tricksters a treat. Continue reading

I’m gearing up for my favorite Holy Day and as such I’m thinking about the Halloween treat I will have for everyone on the 31st of this month. I wasn’t able to do my 31 horror shorts as I’ve done in the past, or even 13 little ditties that make one listen closely for the things that go bump in the night, but I’m committed to having something for you all on one of my favorite days of the year (my birthday has to rank #1 of course). My collection of shorts hold all that I have done with regards to the macabre, but there are a few tales tucked into the ramblings of my blog.  Continue reading

New release and new beginings

Today is a special day for me because it’s the 4th anniversary of my very first blog and the announcement of my first published short story. Today’s milestone is even more exciting because it also marks the announcement of my first self published short story. It’s amazing to see how I’ve grown when I look at that first blog. Destined for Love Series

I’m bursting at the seams right now! I set my mind to combing my forgotten WIPs, picking out those that could be spruced up and given new life as a complete story and actually did it. I’d originally hoped they would be reborn as full length novels, but pulled back and thought, why don’t I trust the process and see what happens. I’m excited to announce that I’ve written TWO new short stories! Continue reading

The joy of books

I feel as if every time I turn around there is some sort of international day of celebration for the mundane or obscure. I believe it’s a perk of living in an age when one’s quirks can be transmitted across space and time, and shared with others that are like minded. Today it seems is International Read Naked Day, and when I read the “about” section of the organizers of today’s festivities page I did a mental fist pump. Their description of the joy of reading was so closely connected to my own, I sighed with contentment. I love reading and by extension, I love books. Although I’ve been converted to the world of reading apps and tablets, there is an indescribable happiness I receive from touching an actual book. To quote e.e. cummings, “I like what it does, I like its hows”, and when someone says they don’t like to read, I recoil back from them with a shudder. A change is gonna come

Today has been a partially lazy day, mostly because I had great intentions to get some writing done on the next book in my Ambrose Family Series, but alas the road to good intentions is paved with internet distractions. Instead, I’ve started the process of sprucing up my blog and getting writing stuff in order. I recently received the rights back to several of my books and I’m filled with both excitement and trepidation. I’ve re-released some books already but I feel as if my path is being planted more firmly in a direction I wasn’t that sure about taking. Self-publishing was not initially a direction I saw myself, but as I’m always up to a challenge I’ve decided to see where it takes me. Granted, these stories are easy test subjects because the bulk of the work has already been done having had them submitted to a publishing house. Yet, I get a little giddy thinking of the possibilities that await me as I embark on this new journey. Now, if only I good stop looking at bearded men on Tumblr life would be more productive.

A little bit of romance

I’m “this” close to finishing the next book in my Ambrose Family Series and I’m beyond excited. I love the contemporary genre but find myself constantly pulled away to darker stories that involve fangs, fur, and things that go bump in the night. There is a darker edge to the love stories I craft for those stories and I revel in my characters ability to wield a sword or some high powered machinery. Therefore, it has been a bit of a surprise that I’ve immersed myself so completely in the telling of this particular tale.

I’m actually in love with the love of sweet romance and plan to see how far I can carry out this new infatuation of mine. There is something delightful about a love story set in real time. There is also a pressure to make sure the story is more authentic because my suspension of disbelief has narrower parameters. I’m up for the challenge and steadily typing away. Fingers crossed!
